Our Story
The United Kingdom Albanian Medical Society (UKAMS) is a professional network bringing together Albanian healthcare professionals and students across the UK. Our mission is to foster collaboration, support professional development, and promote excellence in healthcare.
What began as a small group of doctors with a shared vision has grown into a diverse and dynamic multidisciplinary community.
Today, UKAMS connects clinicians across medicine, pharmacy, dentistry, and allied health professions, alongside the next generation of healthcare students.
We are united by a common purpose: to strengthen professional connections, support one another, and make a meaningful contribution to healthcare in the UK and within Albanian-speaking communities.
Founders of UKAMS
UKAMS was established by a group of dedicated healthcare professionals who recognised the need for a supportive and collaborative network within the Albanian medical community. Their shared vision laid the foundation for a society that continues to grow and evolve.
The founding members include Dr Fahri Seljmani (Emergency Doctor), Dr Besim Latifaj (Consultant Pathologist), Dr Vjollca Braina (Dentist), Dr Ernese Xhafa-Hamiti (Consultant Oncologist), Dr Baki Ejupi (GP) and Dr Sabri Trepça (GP).

Our Journey
The foundations of UKAMS were formed in 2017, when Albanian doctors in the UK came together for the first time with a shared ambition to establish a professional society. This vision became a reality in 2019, when UKAMS was formally founded as an independent, non-governmental organisation.
As the community grew, so did its scope. By 2023, UKAMS had expanded to reflect a broader and more inclusive network, welcoming healthcare professionals and students from a wide range of disciplines.
In recent years, the Society has focused on strengthening connections through community-building initiatives, professional engagement, and collaboration with healthcare stakeholders.
Looking ahead, UKAMS remains committed to sustainable growth, expanding its initiatives, and creating meaningful opportunities for its members while continuing to contribute positively to healthcare and the wider community.
